Up for sale is an absolutely gorgeous, all-original Reconnaissance Box Car with its original box, instructions and helicopter. This functional box car has beautiful exterior colors with clean, crisp and complete side lettering and graphics. There is nothing broken, damaged nor repaired plus the frame and trucks are factory fresh, clean and obviously of free of rust and oxidation. Additionally, the operating mechanism is complete and fully functional, just as designed by Lionel in the early 1960's.
The original helicopter is complete, not damaged and the windshield has slightly yellowed with age (common to many of the postwar clear plastic molds). The tail rotor does not have the Built By Lionel embedded into the plastic -- but not all original copters contained that lettering (see "Lionel Trains, 1945-1969, Volume 1: Motive Power & Rolling Stock", 9th edition by Paul V. Ambrose, page 189 under the heading of Lionel Helicopter Types where he assigns it a Type IX from 1962-1964 and mentions the early versions did not have the lettering). In addition, the originals are a dark cherry red in color as shown with this helicopter and on each side they have (from front to back): a window/door/window molded into the helicopter The reproductions are a noticeably lighter red color and have only a window/door on their side without a second window.
Finally, the original box and instructions are included. The instructions are clean, free of tears and correctly dated 1962. The Orange Picture box is solid as a brick, has all internal and external flaps (including the coupler flaps) and is free of tape, stains and puncture holes.
