Grading Definition

Description of Gradings:

10:  Brand New, all original, unused and unblemished.

9:  Factory New, all original, unused, may have evidence of factory rubs and the slightest evidence of handling and/or shipping. Probably test run at the factory.

8:  Like New, complete and all original, no rust, no missing parts. May show effects of being on display and/or age, very minimal signs of ever being run.

7:  Excellent, all original, minute scratches and paint nicks, no rust and no missing parts. No distortion of component parts.

6:  Very Good, Minor scratches and paint nicks, minor spots of surface rust, free of dents. May have minor parts replaced.

5:  Good, Sign of play wear with scratches and minor paint loss. Small dents, minor surface rust. Evidence of heavy use.

4:  Fair, Scratched, moderate paint loss, dented, missing parts and/or surface rust. Evidence of heavy use.

3:  Poor, Requires major body repair. Heavily scratched, major rust and missing parts. Restoration candidate.

2:  Restoration required.

1:  Unusable, junk, value is for parts only.

Reproduction:  An item manufactured to look exactly like an original item or part.

Restoration:  Professionally restored, refurbished or refinished with a color and look approximating the original finish. Trim and ornamentation are present and in condition 8 or better. The finish also appears in condition 8. Some or all parts are original postwar Lionel items.
