Up for sale is one of the rarest USMC Lionel train sets offered during the postwar era -- the Marine Battlefront Special outfit from 1958. Each component was unique to only this set and not offered for sale in any other train sets during the late 1950's.
This particular set is in pristine condition and includes all original postwar equipment -- and free of any reproduction components. As you review the 36 photos above -- as well as the information below -- you'll see all components are correct for this set and each item is in high collector grade condition. And best of all, this set has been handled with extreme care over the years so everything in the set remains in fantastic condition.
Regarding the condition of the freight cars, steam switcher and all other components -- everything looks beautiful and easily graded at condition 8 to 8+, with the majority of the items being graded at 8+. The exterior paint on each train is vibrant, the side lettering is crisp and the numbers and graphics are clean and complete.
Below is a summary of each item, its condition and details pertaining to original boxes:
- 1625 / 1625T Steam Switcher and Tender:
- The steamer has been cleaned, serviced, tested and works perfectly. The exterior colors on each unit are gorgeous, the lettering is vibrant and all metal components are clean and free of rust and oxidation.
- The steamer box is solid, complete with all interior and exterior flaps and graded at a 9. The tender box is missing the coupler flap, but all other flaps are present, there is some clear tape on the interior and the box is graded at an 8. Lastly, the steamer does include its original wrapping paper and is the correct later variation with the lightly imprinted horizontal lines.
- 6804 Flatcar with USMC Anti-Aircraft and Sound Truck vehicles: The flatcar is in pristine condition with a vibrant red color and gorgeous white lettering. Both vehicles are original postwar components that are complete and free of damage and repairs. Each of the AAR trucks are complete and fully functional as well as free of rust and oxidation. Condition of the flatcar and vehicles is an 8 to 8+. The original box has both end and tuck flaps, three of the four inner flaps, both coupler flaps plus clear tape on the interior of several flaps. Condition of the box is a 7+ to an 8.
- 6806 Flatcar with USMC Radar and Medical Truck vehicles: This freight car is also in gorgeous condition with a vibrant red color and gorgeous white lettering. Both vehicles are original postwar components that are complete and free of damage and repairs. Each of the AAR trucks and couplers are complete and fully functional as well as free of rust and oxidation. Condition of the flatcar and vehicles is an 8 to 8+. The original box has both end and tuck flaps, all four inner flaps, missing coupler flaps plus clear tape on the interior of several flaps. Condition of the box is a 7.
- 6808 Flatcar with USMC Dual Gun Tank and Searchlight Truck vehicles: This freight car is also in beautiful condition with a vibrant red color and gorgeous white lettering. Both vehicles are original postwar components that are complete and free of damage and repairs. Each of the AAR trucks and couplers are complete and fully functional as well as free of rust and oxidation. Condition of the flatcar and vehicles is an 8 to 8+. The original box has both end and tuck flaps, all four inner flaps, both coupler flaps plus clear tape on the interior of several flaps. Condition of the box is a 7+ to an 8.
- 6017-85 Lionel Lines Caboose: Like all of the freight car listed above, this caboose is also in fantastic condition. The exterior color is clean and vibrant while the side lettering is crisp and complete. The frame, end railings and trucks are all clean and free of rust and oxidation. Condition of the caboose is an 8 to 8+. The original box is complete with all exterior flaps, all interior flaps plus the coupler flap and it too has clear tape on the interior. Condition of the box is an 8 to 8+.

- Original 1958 Consumer Catalogue in condition 8+ showing the set on page 4 and 5 for sale.
- Original set of 1958 billboards in condition 8+.
- 6029 Remote Control Track: the track and 90C controller are in condition 8+ to 9 but best of all, the rare original box is included in this set! The box is solid, complete and free of damage and graded at an 8+ to a 9.
- Original instructions for the 1625 and Outfit Set-Up. The set instructions are correctly numbered 1595-10 and each set of instructions are graded at an 8.
- 1595 Outfit box: complete, solid, nice and square plus all interior and exterior flaps are present, there is no tape nor moisture staining on the box and the exterior printing is clean and legible. Condition of the box is an 8.
