Now available for sale is a unique and somewhat rare Preamble Express F3 A unit diesel. This uncatalogued locomotive only appeared in the 1975 Dealer Flyer brocher and was planned to be part of a 1976 bi-centenial Freedom Passenger Train. However, for reasons unknown, the set was never manufactured. Additionally, there was no matching non-powered A or B unit ever manufactured to match the 8568 powered unit. Interestingly, this is the only F3 Lionel diesel never to have a matching non-powered unit during the postwar, MPC or early modern era (1945 - 1999).
This particular diesel has an extremely colorful and attractive external paint scheme and is brand new, never used and truly New Old Stock inventory from late 1975. Externally, the diesel has pristine colors with vibrant side lettering and graphics. Internally, the frame, motor and trucks are as clean as the exterior and free or rust and oxidation. The motor has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, tested and it runs like a champ. Lastly, the lights work properly, the e-unit is functional and the front functional coupler is fully operational.
Also included with the diesel are all original paperwork items including:
- Clean and complete original instructions.
- Original warranty card.
- Lionel Service Station Listing.
- An original box that is as solid as a brick, includes all internal and external flaps plus a complete syrofoam insert. The front cellophane panel does have a slight tear, but nothing missing.
