Up for sale is a beautiful, all-original 746 Norfolk & Western Class J Northern steam locomotive with a 746W short stripe whistling tender. Both units have been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, tested and all functionality works perfectly including the e-unit, the smoke unit, headlight plus the tender whistle is loud. Additionally, the trucks, frame and wheels are clean and free of rust and oxidation and there is no damage to either unit.
Regarding their condition, the locomotive is gorgeous, easily in condition 8! The exterior colors are vibrant, the side stripes are crisp and complete and there are no nicks, chips nor damage to the steamer. The tender does have a handful of small, minor surface paint rub marks from usage, but remains nice and clean. The condition of the tender is in the area of a 7 to possibly a 7+. Lastly, the tender has an original postwar shell that is complete with both rear corner steps and free of cracks and damage.
Also included with this set is a solid original boxes for both units. Each box is in decent condition, but the steamer box is a bit soft and the tender box has clear tape on the interior of many flaps. Externally, the boxes look nice, but a tad shy of collector grade. Finally, an original container of # 909 Lionel smoke fluid is included as well as a tube of Lionel grease.
