Now available for sale is a nice and clean 726RR Berkshire -- without a tender -- from 1952. This locomotive has some pros and cons -- which are listed below:
Pros:
- The boiler as well as the original front headlight casting are in nice condition and graded at a 7.
- There is no rust nor oxidation on the steamer.
- The e-unit cycles flawlessly.
- The headlight does illuminate properly.
- The steamer and all internal components are present, nothing is missing.
Cons:
- The steamer runs ok (not perfect) in the forward direction, but something is binding when trying to run in reverse. When tested separately, the motor runs like a champ when not mounted to the frame.
- The smoke unit does not smoke.
- Three of the four small green jewels are missing from the front of the steamer.
- The simulated chrome whistle has broken off of the top of the steamer boiler.
Overall, a reasonably priced "weekend project" or you can use the steamer for parts on other Berkshire locomotives.
