Now available for sale is a nice and clean 726 Berkshire and die-cast 2426W whistling tender from 1948. This Berkshire locomotive has the traditional smoke element but with the simulated coupler in the front pilot plus the Atomic Precision Motor -- which was a one-year-only variation for 1948. The exterior colors on both units are clean while the side lettering on the tender is crisp and complete -- however the are a handful of minor surface paint chips from usage, but the combination has certainly not been abused. Both units have been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, tested and all functionality operates just as designed by Lionel. The e-unit cycles properly, the smoke unit works, the headlight does illuminate plus the whistle works properly. Additionally, there is no rust nor oxidation on either item plus the tender has all metal corner steps. Overall, a really nice and clean steamer and tender combination.
Finally, there are boxes and inserts for each item plus other original components. The steamer has an original postwar exterior box, but with a reproduction insert. The tender has a reproduction box and insert. Lastly, original instructions dated 1948 are included as well as an original postwar tube of lubricant (about 40% full) and a bottle of original postwar smoke pellets (about 60% full).
