Now available for sale is a somewhat rare reddish-orange colored caboose from 1948 along with the very early frame having side tool boxes! Below is a summary of this caboose:
- The fairly hard-to-find reddish-orange exterior color is vibrant and free of any flaws and apologies.
- The side lettering and graphics are crisp and complete.
- The body is in pristine condition and free of any nicks, chips and external blemishes plus there's barely any signs of usage.
- This rare frame was only available for a brief portion of time in early 1948 and was designed for the 6257 having a painted smokestack. However, once the painted smokestack cabs were depleted from inventory, Lionel simply installed regular production 6257 caboose shells onto this frame. For this particular frame, it can be identified as an original frame as it still has the original factory paint and there are no markings from a lamp installation socket -- which is found on all 6457 illuminated cabooses. However, there are circular marks around the center hole -- which remains a mystery.
- The staple-end trucks and single coupler are clean and free of any signs of rust and oxidation.
- The end railings have original paint, are free of rust and oxidation and only have a hint of paint flaking.
