Up for sale is the one-year-only 2330 GG-1 from 1950 and was Lionel's first postwar GG-1 to have dual motors and magnetraction. With the addition of these two features, it significantly improved the pulling power compared to Lionel's first GG-1 locomotive, the 2332.
This particular electric locomotive has seen a lot of use on the Lionelville railroad, but after a good cleaning, servicing and test, it's ready to go for another 75 years! Below is a summary of the pros and cons of this locomotive:
- The exterior color is clean and vibrant while the side stripes have the typical wear in the center of the cab. Additionally, all four Pennsylvania decals are in decent condition.
- Nothing is damaged nor broken on the cab, however there is some minor battery corrosion on the interior where the battery holder is located.
- The pantographs are reproduction components and unfortunately missing the eight white plastic insulators (which are readily available from all parts distributors).
- All functionality has been tested and works fine. The e-unit cycles properly, the dual motors run light a champ, both interior lights do illuminate plus the relay and horn are functional. However, the battery holder portion of the sheet metal frame has some surface rust on the interior and would need to be cleaned for perfect operation of the horn.
- The front and rear couplers do work properly, although one of the couplers opens (most of the time) as it goes over a UCS section of O gauge track. So, you'll need to couple your freight or passenger cars to the opposite end -- or kick off a weekend project to troubleshoot and resolving the issue.
- Lastly, the metal components of the locomotive are generally clean, but there are minor oxidation spots throughout the frame and trucks.
