Now available for sale is an uncatalogued Lionel steam freight set from 1963. According to popular reference books this set was produced for D. O. Klein -- which is an unknown entity at the current time. Production numbers were low with only 2,100 total sets being produced.

Interestingly, this set had two different production runs:

  • The first variation included the more common caboose to this set -- a plain brown SP-style caboose with no exterior lettering nor graphics. Production totals for this set with the brown caboose are estimated to be in the area of 1,600 to 1,800 outfits.
  • The second and less common variation included a harder-to-find 6120 undecorated yellow work caboose. Production numbers for the set containing the 6120 caboose are estimated to be in the area of several hundred total sets (maybe 300 to 500) -- making this particular set fairly rare!

The outfit available for sale contains all of the original freight cars as produced by Lionel. Each freight car plus the locomotive are complete and not chipped, cracked nor damaged. The steamer has been cleaned, serviced, tested and operates perfectly. Also included are many of the original "extras" including:

  • 242 Scout steamer with non-whistling slope back tender
  • 3830 Flatcar with Submarine
  • 6014 Frisco box car
  • 6406 Flatcar with Automobile
  • 6120 Unlettered yellow work caboose
  • 1963 consumer catalogue
  • Set of 1963 billboards
  • Instruction booklet, which is the correct version, # 1641-10
  • Track, 1010 transformer and 1088 manual uncoupling mechanism
  • Condition of most items are closer to an 8, everything is nice and clean
  • The only reproduction item in the set is the green automobile

Don't miss out on this opportunity to purchase a clean, complete, rare, original Lionel train set. This can easily be the centerpiece of anyone collection!
