Now available for sale is the one-year-only Box Cab freight set from 1956. This set is somewhat noteworthy in that is was Lionel's final postwar catalogued set with a retail price under $20 as well as the first postwar set not to have any components boxed -- all items separated by cardboard inserts.

This particular set is extremely clean with all components graded between a 7+ and 7++. Below is a summary of the items in the set:

  • 520 Box Cab locomotive: Tested and all functionality works as designed by Lionel. There is nothing broken nor damaged and the unit is free of rust and oxidation. Condition is 7++ to an 8.
  • 6012 Lionel Gondola: clean, free of damage, cracks, rust and oxidation, condition is 7++.
  • 6014 Baby Ruth /Pennsylvania box car: clean, free of damage, cracks, rust and oxidation, condition is 7++.
  • 6017 Lionel Lines caboose: clean, free of damage, cracks, rust and oxidation, condition is a 7+.
  • 1015 Transformer: tested, works properly, still has a pliable original line cord, no damage, condition 7++.
  • Track: Eight 027 gauge curve track, three 027 gauge straight track (plus the 6029 uncoupling track). No damage to the track, but there is tarnishing on the rails plus some cross ties have minor oxidation and a couple of track pins are missing.
  • 6029 Uncoupling track: clean, functional, no damage and includes the original #90C controller, postwar green wire (which has been re-coiled) as well as the packing envelope for the controller & wire.
  • Billboards: set of six billboards for 1956. Four of the six are still attached, have nice colors and clean but there is some wear by the edges and corners. Condition is a 7.
  • 1956 How To Operate Lionel Trains: Complete book, tear on the cover page, condition 7.
  • Original set box # 1542: complete with all interior and exterior flaps, no tape, staining nor writing but some shelf wear on the exterior. Condition is an 8.
