Up for sale is a nice and clean Alco AA diesel freight set from the mid-1960's. This catalogued set was Lionel's premium 027 outfit in 1965 and included a AA Texas Special diesel along with five freight cars. Although it is a fairly common set, locating one in collectable condition is hard to do as these sets were extensively played with over the past 60+ years and are usually found in well used condition. Lastly, the set remains popular as it contains several colorful freight cars.
All items in this set have been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, tested and are ready to run. The diesel is complete and all functionality works as designed Below is a summary of the set, their condition and included components:
- 211 Texas Special Also AA diesels with the following characteristics:
- Two-position e-unit
- Dual axle drive with traction tires
- Illuminated headlight in the power unit
- Weight mounted to the interior of the power unit shell
- Condition: nice and clean, graded a 7+ no rust nor oxidation but flaws include a couple of minor scratches on the top nose of the power unit and a hairline crack on each apron.
- 6142 Green gondola with two original, undamaged postwar canisters, condition is an 8.
- 6176 Lehigh Valley hopper in black, nothing nicked, chipped nor damaged, condition is an 8.
- 6465 Lionel Lines tank car, this is the only freight car with an apology. As seen in the 18th photo above, there is a chip on one walkway end as well as a crack in the center -- although nothing is missing from the center cracked walkway. The freight car is graded at a 6+, but excluding these two issues, the remainder of the tanker is in condition 8.
- 6473 Horse Transport Car - deep yellow body color variation with maroon lettering, no issues nor damage, graded at an 8.
- 6059 Minneapolis & St. Louis caboose - nice and clean, has the typical manufacturing blemish on the roof (part of the molded plastic and seen on many, many other 6059's), graded at an 8.
- 11560 Set Box - nice, clean, solid, free of tears but does have someone's name on the cover, graded at an 8+.
