Now available for sale is a New Old Stock # 6464-275 State Of Maine box car from 1959!
This freight car has a factory fresh exterior with vibrant colors, gorgeous side lettering and graphics plus an extremely clean frame and set of trucks. The box car has Type III body with the ribbed interior roof -- which is generally viewed as late 1958 or 1959. The body is free of nicks, chips and cracks and the only blemish appears to be from the factory. On the white stripe -- to the left of the doors, there is a faint mark (appears to be a partial fingerprint) and this mark appears on both sides in the exact same location! Otherwise, the freight car is in perfect condition. Lastly, the trucks and wheels are new with no signs of ever being on the track.
Also included with this freight car is a somewhat rare and unusual Rubber Stamped Late Classic box for the State of Maine Box Car. Lionel generally printed rubber stamped boxes for freight cars when production was just starting or ending in an effort to align the trains with available boxes. In this case, the rubber stamped box is assumed to be from 1959 as production was winding down and additional boxes were needed for the freight car. For this particular box, the Rubber Stamping is correctly applied to both end flaps. Additionally, the box includes both end and tuck flaps, all four interior flaps and one of the two coupler flaps. Externally, the colors are nice and vibrant and internally there is tape on several flaps. Overall, a decent box that is somewhat rare.
