Now available for sale is the somewhat rare 6457 caboose with the brown painted smokestack and the correct original box and insert! This caboose variation was only manufactured for a portion of early 1949 and is far less common than documented in many reference guides. It has the correct staple-end trucks with vibrant exterior colors, crisp and clean side lettering plus the base, trucks, end-railings and ladders are free of rust and oxidation. Additionally, the interior light does work plus there are no stress cracks on either roof overhang section.
The only blemish on this caboose is a mold imperfection on the top catwalk of the caboose. This imperfection is not due to a melt mark from the light bulb, but rather an imperfection during the manufacturing process. A detailed photo of this imperfection is shown in the 4th & 10th photo above. Excluding the imperfection, this caboose is easily graded at an 8!
Lastly, the correct original box and insert are included. The box is an overstamped 2357 box with the correct insert plus it includes all interior and exterior flaps with clear tape only on the two tuck flaps. Otherwise the box is clean, free of writing and puncture holes and simply looks great. Also, the insert is solid, complete and free of tears and holes.
