Up for sale is a New Old Stock # 3413 Mercury Capsule Launching flatcar from the early 1960's!
This brand new, never used freight car was purchased from a collection where a significant number of items were purchased from Madison Hardware in the early 1990's when their inventory was moved from New York City to Michigan. For this particular flatcar, there is no documentation indicating it came from Madison Hardware, however the external condition is consistent with many of the items sold out of the Michigan location; the item is unrun, missing its original box but in gorgeous condition.
The exterior colors on the flatcar are pristine plus the side lettering is bright, crisp and complete. The missile is complete and not damaged nor cracked, the Mercury Capsule includes its red parachute plus both items appear to be original postwar components. The only blemish to the freight car is the top railing has a hairline crack (see 5th photo above) and it's so minor that is is near impossible to see in the photo. Lastly, both trucks and couplers are complete and functional and the wheels show no signs of ever being on the track.
