Now available for sale is a New Old Stock # 228 Canadian National Alco A diesel from 1961!
This one-year-only & uncatalogued Canadian National Alco A diesel was manufactured by Lionel in 1961 and is fairly difficult to locate these days in collector condition. According to the prior owner, this diesel was purchased from Madison Hardware in the early 1990's when their inventory was moved from New York City to Michigan. However, there is no paperwork supporting this history, although the external condition is consistent with many items sold from the Michigan location; unrun, and in fantastic condition.
This particular diesel has a gorgeous green exterior with crisp and vibrant yellow lettering. As seen in the photos above, the diesel is in new condition, no exterior nicks, chips nor scrratches, but there are a couple of very minor pinhead sized spots from storage (see the 8th photo above, they are barely visible). Additionally, the frame, motor, e-unit, light are all in new condition and free of rust and oxidation plus the wheels show no signs of ever being on the track. Overall, a gorgeous locomotive that does not often surface for sale in this condition.
