Up for sale is a brand new, New Old Stock # 226 Boston & Maine Alco AB diesel from 1960!
This particular Alco diesel that was purchased from a collection where a significant number of items were obtained from Madison Hardware in the early 1990's when their inventory was moved from New York City to Michigan. For this particular diesel, there is no documentation indicating it came from Madison Hardware, however the external condition, box availability, instructions and other items are very consistent with many of the items sold out of the Michigan location; the diesel is unrun and looks factory fresh!
These hard-to-find, uncatalogued Boston & Maine diesels have been tested and all functionality works properly, however they will need a bit of oil & grease if you plan to run the locomotive on your layout. The exterior colors are spectacular while the side lettering and decals are in gorgeous condition. The frames, trucks and wheel are free of rust and oxidation and all functionality operates as designed by Lionel including the headlight, 3-position e-unit, horn and both magnetraction axles. Lastly, there are no nicks, chips nor blemishes on either unit, they look factory fresh! Lastly, this set consists of a teal-blue power A unit with a true-blue colored B unit.
Finally, the set includes many extras such as:
- Alco A Power Unit: Beautiful condition, solid and free of writing, staining and tears.
- Alco B Trailer Unit: Great colors, complete with all interior and exterior flaps including the coupler flaps. The front perforated panel is attached the box is solid and free of writing and staining although there is some minor shelf wear on the exterior.
- Original instructions # 218 -- which is correct for the 226 Boston & Main diesel. These instructions are dated 1959 and included in early 1960 production.
- Original Wrapping Paper: Decent condition and the correct later variation with the faint horizontal lines.
- Tube of original lubricant.
