Up for sale is the somewhat rare 1945 version of the 224 Prairie steam locomotive with its 2466WX whistling tender. The steamer and tender both have blackened handrails (indicating 1945) plus the tender has the correct flying shoe trucks from 1945. Additionally, the steam locomotive and whistling tender have been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, tested and operate perfectly. The e-unit cycles properly, the front headlight does illuminate and the tender whistle is loud and strong. The exterior colors are extremely vibrant, the side lettering is crisp and clean and the drive rods are original parts. Lastly, the tender shell is an original shell and the flying shoe trucks are complete and undamaged!
The only apologies on this pair is one of the small simulate front steps on the cowcatcher is broken off (lower left of photo 4) and the tender shell has a melt mark along the bottom edge (photos 8 & 9) -- which is not too noticeable when viewed from the side. Without these two apologies, the rest of the steamer and tender are close to condition 8!
Lastly, there are original boxes for both units, but unfortunately they are in poor condition. Neither box has the original insert and there is lots of shelf wear on the exterior and tape on the interior. As a final note, the 224 steamer box is a prewar overstamped 1664 steam locomotive box and the 2466W tender is in a prewar overstamped 2224W box.
