Now available for sale is a gorgeous and hard-to-find gray Dreyfuss steam locomotive with its original non-whistling tender. The gray variation is a one-year-only version from 1946 and is the only postwar steam locomotive to be manufactured in a color other than black.
Both the steam locomotive and tender both have been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, tested and operate perfectly. The e-unit cycles properly, the front headlight does illuminate and the motor runs nice and smooth. The exterior colors are vibrant, the side decals on the tender are in near-perfect condition and there's not a spot of rust or oxidation on either item. The only apology on this unit is some very minor paint flaking on the front cowcatcher of the steamer. Lastly, the drive rods are original parts and free of discoloration or aging plus the trucks and couplers are clean and fully functional.
Finally, nice and clean original boxes are included for each item:
- The steamer box has both end flaps, but missing several interior flaps and one tuck flap. Externally, the colors and lettering are clean and crisp, but the box is somewhat worn or aged however the original insert is included. Overall condition of the steamer box is a 6 or 7.
- The tender box and insert have held up a little better compared to the steam locomotive box. The tender insert is clean and solid plus the box has both end flaps, missing one tuck flap and most interior flaps. Overall condition of the tender box is an 8.
