Up for sale is a New Old Stock # 216 Burlington Alco A diesel from 1958!
This brand new, never used Alco diesel was purchased from a collection where a significant number of items were purchased from Madison Hardware in the early 1990's when their inventory was moved from New York City to Michigan. For this particular diesel, there is no documentation indicating it came from Madison Hardware, however the external condition is consistent with many of the items sold out of the Michigan location; the item is unrun, all internal components are present plus the box has the customary moisture staining on the exterior like so many other Madison Hardware boxes.
This particular locomotive has been thoroughly cleaned, serviced, bench tested (not on a layout) and all functionality works perfectly. The exterior silver color as well as the red strips and lettering are all in perfect condition and appears as though it was manufactured this year! Additionally, there are no nicks, chips nor nicks on the body, the front apron is complete and not cracked nor repaired plus all metal components appear factory fresh in appearance. Overall, a truly stunning diesel with the following features:
- Illuminated headlight
- Three position e-unit
- Dual axle magnetraction
Lastly, this Burlington includes many other original components, such as:
- Original box: complete with all internal and external flaps, but as seen in the photos there is some moisture staining on the exterior
- Nice and clean original instructions # 216 and correctly dated May 1958
- Original cardboard O ring to protect front coupler & apron
- Original Lionel wrapping paper -- which is the correct later variation with the embedded, faint horizontal lines
