Now available for sale is a New Old Stock # 1882 General steam locomotive w/ 1882T tender from 1960!
Here's a brand new, unrun Lionel 1882 / 1882T steam locomotive and tender that was purchased from a collection where a significant number of items were purchased from Madison Hardware in the early 1990's when their inventory was moved from New York City to Michigan. For this particular steamer and tender, there is no documentation indicating it was purchased from Madison Hardware, however the external condition is consistent with many of the items sold out of the Michigan location; the item is unrun but with minor surface oxidation on the base from storage and/or moving.
This particular one-year-only and uncatalogued General-style locomotive is commonly referred to as the Halloween Steamer based upon Lionel's choice of colors. Externally, the locomotive is gorgeous with pristine colors, no nicks, marks nor broken components plus bright, crisp and complete side lettering and graphics. The base of the tender is spotless plus all eight tender wheels show no signs of ever being on the track. Additionally, the front pilot wheels on the steamer show no signs of ever being on the track but the larger steam locomotive drive wheels appear to have been test run at some point in the past.
Note: The steamer has been tested and does work properly plus the e-unit cycles as designed by Lionel, however, the steamer has not been thoughly cleaned nor fully serviced. For the true Lionel purist, this unit still has the original grease and oil from 1960 within the motor. This is called out because the locomotive motor is functional, but sluggish due to the old grease. If interested, a full service can be done on both units for no additional charge prior to shipping.
