Up for sale is a clean, all-original 3454 Operating Merchandise box car along with many add-ons that are generally not included with this freight car. This operating freight car has recently been cleaned, serviced, tested and is ready to operate on your layout. All components are original postwar items and this would make an excellent addition to anyone collection or layout.
This freight car is clean with nice exterior silver paint plus crisp and complete side lettering and graphics. There are a couple of very minor surface marks from usage, but overall, a nice and clean box car. The frame and trucks are clean and free of rust and oxidation, but there are a couple of minor surface scratches on the frame. This freight car has the visible hinge pin on one end and a 1946 box & instructions -- implying it is an early 1947 production item. Lastly, a complete and undamaged original # 160 dump bin is included -- and it is a bit unusual as it has many deep green speckles throughout the bakelite bin.
Included with this freight car are all of the following items:
- Complete, undamaged silver-painted body and metal doors
- Nice, complete blue heat stamped lettering
- Hinge pin for the roof hatch is visible on one end
- Metal brake wheel with all four corner metal steps still attached
- Staple-end trucks with the correct coil couplers
- Instructions # 3454-47 and dated 5-46
- Factory Inspection Slip "51147" in White.
- Six original postwar hard plastic cubes marked "BABY RUTH" that resemble merchandise containers
- Solid original box with all internal and external flaps -- but there is clear tape on most interior flaps
- Original brown corrugated insert
- Complete and original # 160 dump bin -- with many deep green speckles throughout the dump bin
