Product Overview

Condition:  7+           Original Box:  Var          Year:  1955

Now available for sale is one of the most sought-after -- and rarest -- postwar sets: the one year only Congressional Set from 1955. This prototypical set was modeled after real-life Pennsylvania passenger trains traveling along the northeast portion of the United States in the early to mid-1950's. And best of all -- this set was purchased from the original owner and is not a put-together set!

Included in this set are the following components:

  • 2340 Tuscan Five-Stripe Pennsylvania GG-1 locomotive
  • 2541 Alexander Hamilton Observation
  • 2542 Betsy Ross Vista Dome
  • 2543 William Penn Pullman
  • 2544 Molly Pitcher Pullman
  • 2254W Set Box
  • 1955 Set of billboards
  • Paperwork: Instructions for the UCS, 2340, Instructions booklet and 1955 Consumer Catalogue
  • Eight curve track, eleven straight track and one UCS track

Each passenger car have been cleaned, serviced, tested and are ready for your layout. The couplers work properly as do all of the interior lights and their overall condition is between a 7+ to an 8. There is no rust nor oxidation on the cars all side decals and stripes are original postwar stripes. Additionally, there are no nicks, chips dings or cracks on any of the passenger cars. There are a couple of very minor surface marks from usage, but they are few and minor. Also each passenger car includes its original box, the boxes are in poor condition.

The 2340 GG-1 has been serviced, tested and operates perfectly. The exterior tuscan color is vibrant and the side lettering is in nice condition, however the stripes are worn in the middle -- as is typical for so many of these GG-1's. There is obviously no rust nor oxidation on the locomotive and there are only a couple of very minor surface marks on the exterior. Overall condition is around a 7 to 7+. Also included is it's original box, insert, tube of lubricant and wrapping paper! These paper items have held up well and graded a 7 to 7+.

Lastly, the set box is complete, but there is reinforcing tape on the interior of several flaps. It's a decent set box and in line with the condition of all other components.
