Condition: 8 Original Box: 8 Year: 1953
Now available for sale is an absolutely gorgeous Berkshire steam freight set from 1953. This premium freight train outfit contained five realistic and prototypical freight cars from the early 1950's era. Interestingly, it is one of the few O gauge sets from 1953 that did not include one of Lionel's all-new the 6464-series box cars.
This set was purchased from the original owner and all of the trains have been very well cared for and each item is at least in condition 8 -- with some slightly better! The trains have all been cleaned, serviced, tested and work perfectly. The Berkshire has a functional light, operating three-position e-unit plus a smoke unit that works great. The whistle in the tender is loud and strong. Finally, all of the exterior colors, lettering and graphics are in great condition and there is no rust nor oxidation on any of the components.
All boxes are solid and contain almost all flaps (a couple of the interior flaps are missing) with each box having both end and tuck flaps. The tender has a reproduction insert, but all other paper items are 100% postwar items. Even the set box is solid and complete. The set also original instructions (all properly dated 1953 for this set), operators manual plus a complete, fully attached set of 1953 billboards! The only instructions missing are for the 3484 operating box car.
Lastly, although the original postwar O gauge track is missing, the UCS track and its box are included. The UCS track has been tested and is fully operational. Even an original bottle of smoke pellets is included (about 25% full) plus the wooden tamper.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to own one of the premier 1953 Berkshire train sets as offered by Lionel. This set has impressive trains in fantastic condition and includes many extras as originally offered by Lionel.
