Product Overview

The New York Central Yard Chief work train outfit # 1502 has received many compliments from Lionel collectors and operators during the past 25+ years. In addition to an excellent assortment of work train cars, Lionel included their premier steam switcher from that era. For any collector or operator interested in a work train set, consider outfit 1502 -- it has a lot to offer -- plus it's almost brand new!

This set begins with Lionel's top-of-the-line steam switcher from the mid-1980's. It is based upon the infamous postwar 1656 switcher, but has been upgraded with several all-new features for a Lionel switcher. Specifically, this classic die-cast switcher locomotive now includes; an illuminated headlight, operating smoke unit and a functional back-up light on the tender -- all being "first time features" in a Lionel steam switcher!

In addition to the feature-filled locomotive, Lionel included a perfect assortment of freight cars for a work train set. Each car is lettered for the New York Central railroad system and is built with prototypically correct colors and logo's for the NYC lines. Even the Bunk Car -- which was new to Lionel in the early 1980's -- looks great in this set.

This particular set was purchased from the original owner. Other than some very minor wheel wear, the set is basically brand new! There's not a nick, mark nor blemish on any of the items and the exterior colors are vibrant with pristine lettering. The steam switcher has been serviced, tested and works perfectly. Even the freight cars are near-Mint with great looking boxes. Finally, the set box is just as nice as the individual components.

Don't miss out on an opportunity to purchase a near-new work train set that's approaching 30 years old -- but appears brand new. The eventual owner of this Yard Chief set will not be disappointed.
