1463W Prairie Three Car Freight Set (7/OB)

Current Stock:

Product Description

Condition:  7           Original Box:  Var          Year:  1950

Outfit 1463W was catalogued for a single year, 1950 and is a hard set to locate. The 2036 steamer was a one-year-only locomotive and this particular set is the only postwar boxed set containing the 2036 locomotive. Although the freight cars are common, the set is difficult to locate in complete, boxed condition.

It is interesting to note, the following year (1951), this set was "upgraded" with the 2026 Prairie locomotive replacing the 2036. The single difference being the 2026 included a functional smoke unit in the locomotive -- which was lacking in the 2036. All other freight cars remained the same between the two sets.

Lionel marketed this set as an introductory 027 gauge outfit. In an effort to keep production costs at a minimum, no operating cars were included with the outfit. Even the gondola barrels, normally included with all gondola up to this point in time, were eliminated. However, the set still included preferred features such as all-metal trucks (as opposed to scout trucks), metal frames on all of the freight cars, a locomotive which included an illuminated headlight, three-position E-unit plus a whistle in the tender. Even the 1033 transformer is a quality item.

All of the components in this set have been completely cleaned, serviced, tested and everything work perfectly. The locomotives headlight is functional and the E-unit operates just as designed. In the tender, the whistle is loud and strong. Although there are some minor surface marks or paint nicks from usage and some very minor oxidation starting in a couple of places, the set is still a quality outfit with all components graded between a 7 and 7+.

All of the individual component boxes are in decent condition, but several boxes have reinforcing tape on interior flaps. Even the locomotive and tender box include their original insert. Overall, the boxes range from a 6 to a 7+.

Finally, the original set box is solid, complete and has crisp exterior lettering. Also included are many of the extras usually missing from original outfits such as; original postwar 027 gauge track, 6019 remote control track plus correct & original 1950 billboards. Finally, all of the instructions for this outfit are included and properly dated 1950.
